We’ve highlighted some exciting events going on in our area this weekend. A weekend sure to please everyone and keep you busy. In case you want to get indoors and see a show check out our ongoing events page for showtimes. Also, it’s the last weekend The Natural History Museum will have the dinosaurs on display. Go see them before they are gone for a few years for renovations and updates.

8:30am-6:00pm: A Day out with Thomas at B & O Railroad

Little Engineers won’t believe their eyes–or their ears! For the first time ever at Day Out With Thomas™, Thomas the Tank Engine™ will be able to talk to his fans when he returns to the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore! Take a 25 minute train ride behind Thomas the Tank Engine, meet Sir Topham Hatt, and enjoy a full day of live entertainment, activities, and family fun! 9:45am-3:00pm: Earth Day at Piscataway Park

Celebrate National Park Week and Earth Day! Pack a picnic lunch, grab your work gloves and sturdy shoes, and join your fellow park lovers for the second annual Earthfest to celebrate Earth Day. It will be a fun filled day of volunteering and family friendly activities so bring the kids for a beautiful day in Piscataway Park.

The YMCA is offering you more than just a day of play. Join thousands of neighbors and organizations as we celebrate the YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day, a national YMCA initiative that inspires families to move and learn all summer long. 10:30am: GIGS and Kidzbill present Junior Jams: Kevin Kammeraad and the Cooperfly Puppet Troupe

A show for all ages with poetry, puppetry, music, and movement! Kevin loves to perform, write, draw, sing, make things, and wonder about possibilities. He is an award-winning artist, performer, and children’s author of many books and CD’s. $6 Advanced / $8 Doors (Cash Only!)
10:30am: Tim Seston at DC Family Fiesta at El Tamarindo

Tim will be playing original songs and telling stories that engage children and make parents chuckle. Families will enjoy clever rhyme, song, classic storytelling and guitar music. A great way to kick-off the weekend! Stay after the show for El Tamarindo’s delicious food and kid-friendly options. Children of all ages will enjoy the music. $4 person/3 people for $10.
10:30am: Little Pretzels: Kids & Family Yoga Class at Jammin Java

Jammin Java is trying something new! They’re partnering with local yoga studio, Dancing Mind, to present a fun yoga class for kids and families! Through interactive games, songs, stories and self-expression, your child(ren) will get to experience the many benefits of the ancient practice of yoga. Tickets are $8 or $25/4 people.
11:00am: Now This! For Kids at Old Town Theatre

Your kids shout out their ideas, and our cast instantly turns them into songs, comic sketches & musical fairy tales ‘Nobody Ever Heard Of Before’. Tickets are $8.
1:00pm-8:00pm: Kingman Island Bluegrass and Folk Festival
(North side of RFK stadium, park in Lot 7 which is along Oklahoma Ave. N.E.)
The 5th Annual Kingman Island Bluegrass Festival will draw thousands of Bluegrass fans to Kingman and Heritage Islands Park in celebration of Bluegrass in the Nation’s Capital, the Anacostia River, and Kingman and Heritage Islands. The festival will feature DC’s hottest food trucks, beers from Sierra Nevada, kayaks, climbing wall, and outdoor classes from REI, bike giveaways and bike demos from BicycleSPACE, activities and performances for the kids from Boogie Babes, fun snacks and games from Whole Foods Market, and amazing bluegrass music including feature act The Hackensaw Boys. 1:o0pm-3:30pm: Dueling Piano Family Show at Bobby McKeys

Bobby McKeys is located at the National Harbor, you may have been here for adult beverages and entertainment. They open their doors at 1:00pm for a family friendly show sure to get your kids up, dancing and singing. $18/Adults $15/Kids, under 2 free, ticket includes buffet ticket. You could tie this trip in and also stop by the National Children’s Museum.

Your child’s favorite stories will be brought to life through dramatic play activities, movement, music, and visual art. Each session you leave with a completed craft, as well as a Parent Pack to extend the experience at home. These popular workshops are themed around beloved children’s books. This weeks story is The Very Grouchy Ladybug. Best for ages 1-3. Tickets are $10.
11:00am-1:30pm: Baby Loves Disco at The Rock n Roll Hotel

The people who bring us the family dance party with great DJ’s and dancers are back in DC. Many activities are planned; sock puppet making, face painting, tattoos and of course lots of boogieing. Plenty of kid approved food and cash bar for non-driving parents. Recommended for kids 6months-7 years old (non-walkers are free) $18/pp. Tickets can be purchased here.
2:00pm-5:00pm: Portrait Story Days: Benny Goodman at The National Portrait Gallery

Drop in to listen to a story about a person who has influenced American history and culture and to create a special piece of art. Learn about American jazz musician Benny Goodman (1909-1986). For ages 5 and up with adult.
3:00pm-5:00pm: Mitchell Park Family Spring Celebratio
(S Street NW & 23rd Street NW)
The free event will feature garden crafts for children, face painting, sports activities led by Just for Kids, and live children’s music by Miss Amy.
