Weekday Adventures January 9-13

Escape the cold weather and take the kids bowling at Pinstripes in Georgetown. Every weekday from 10:00am-12:00pm they have Kids Club Bowling. Kids bowl for $3 per hour with a $3 shoe rental and parents bowl free!

Wednesday & Thursday Discovery Theatre presents Professor Wingnut Wants to Fly at various times. Join wacky citizen-scientist Professor Wingnut and his friend Seymour Seagull as they explore the amazing science of flight! From birds to airplanes, this pair loves all things airborne, and are in pursuit of the secret to just what makes them fly. Songs, science, and a flight-tastic dance party take off right under the planes in the Air and Space Museum. Tour the museum after the show!

 As always, DC Public Library has many great baby, toddler and teenager events all week long at several libraries.

Monday-

9:30am-11:00am: Rise + Rhyme at Busboys & Poets

A Busboys and Poets in-house series! Rise + Rhyme is a weekly morning storytelling and performance series for children ages 5 and under, stay-at-home parents, and early rising families of all kinds. $5 suggested donations performer are much appreciated.

Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty in. $5 drop in fee. Supply donations welcomed.

10:30am AND 11:00am: Story Time at the Postal Museum
(2 Massachusetts Ave., N.E. Washington, DC 20002)
The Smithsonian’s National Postal Museum invites adults and young children (ages 2-3) to discover the world around them together at weekly Story Time. Children will build important developmental and social skills through books, activities, songs, and self-guided gallery exploration. Explore themes, such as shapes, colors, and sizes, in a relaxed setting at your neighborhood museum. Feel free to bring snacks and enjoy the space after the program!

Tuesday-

9:30am AND 10:15am: Baby Story Time at Noyes Library

This is a storytime geared toward babies. Recommended ages are newborn to 18 months. Join us as we sing songs,read books and enjoy fingerplays. Due to the popularity of storytime we are now requiring registration. Please register for the adult caregiver attending.

10:00am-11:00am: Shadow Puppets at BloomBars

This shadow puppet stage show will feature a variety of characters and menagerie of traditional and original songs. It explores themes that center around the seasons, the environment, as well as learning components of music.

11:00am-7:30pm: Two for One at Color Me Mine
(823 Ellsworth Drive Silver Spring, Maryland 20910)
2 people paint for 1 studio fee.

5:30pm-7:30pm: Extraordinary Kids’ Night at Busy Bees
(6110 D Arlington Blvd. Falls Church VA 22044)

This is a night designed for kids with special needs and their families. Kids will get to explore & enjoy the playscape at their own pace without a large crowd and parents get to meet other parents who have a shared experience. $5 per family *Please remember that no kids over 48″ will be admitted in the playscape*

Wednesday-
10:00am-11:00am: Little Treasures at BloomBars

Artist in Bloom Resident Tamika Love Jones presents Little Treasures, an educational and interactive journey for babies and children (under age 3) that explores a special box of little treasures. Each treasure that is picked from the box will lead tots and parents to sing their favorite songs, read fun stories and explore their bodies through exciting movement. The theme of Little treasures is self-love and teaching the tots that they, too, are little treasures!

6:00pm: Superhero Story Time at Noyes Library

Come join us as we celebrate everything superhero. We will read books, dance and have superhero activities. To continue the fun, attend our very first comic book convention on January 21st at the Silver Spring Library. MoCoCom will feature free workshops, panels, crafts and loads of fun for kids, teens and adults.

Thursday-

Think of it as your little one’s first opportunity to express his or her voice (into a microphone), dance, play a drum or percussion instrument, shout, or sing-along to songs that build character, confidence and community.

10:30am: The Great Zucchini at Jammin Java

Get tickets for The Great Zucchini, Washington’s funniest and most magical preschool and kindergarten entertainer, performs a colorful magic show where every child is a star and guaranteed to laugh. Experience the excitement of the children when they get to learn a magic trick at the end of show.

10:30am: Peter Pan Club at College Park Aviation Museum

Come to the Peter Pan story time for pre-school fun! Ideal for little learners up to five years old. Enjoy a flight themed story and hands-on craft activity. To schedule a group larger than 10, please call the museum to make a private group reservation.

10:30am: Boogie Babes presents at Marsha Goodman-Wood at Eastern Market
(225 7th St. SE, North Hall Washington, DC 20003)
Join us at Historic Eastern Market’s North Hall (closest to South Carolina) for a lively concert, grab lunch and shop for dinner. Access to the North Hall via the market for Boogie Babes. Eastern Market Metro is two short blocks away. $6 per child; siblings under 6 mos FREE!

5:30pm-6:30pm: Bollywood Blooms- Let’s Dance Kids! at BloomBars
(3222 11th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001)
Classes will begin with light stretching and a brief background and history of the song choice for the day. Since all Bollywood dance songs are essentially a story and our dance is in the form of storytelling, we will be focusing on using our body as words and our facial expressions to help illuminate these words. Please come dressed in comfortable clothing (sweatpants/tights and T-shirts). I prefer to dance barefoot and you all are welcome to join me. If you prefer to wear shoes, please wear sneakers or tennis shoes. Don’t forget a bottle of water and your high energy!

Open play in our Sensory Room for 2-5 year olds and their caregivers. Sand table, rice table, light table, and a new interactive art project each week. No preregistration necessary – just come by and play! $12/visit, half price for siblings. No registration required. Read post I wrote previously about how wonderful Little Loft is!
