Weekday Adventures for a rainy week

Well, it looks like a wet week so we’re bringing you some Weekday Adventures. It’s been awhile– it’s so fun to be back looking for fun activities to attend. Send us any we may have left off the list. Stay dry but keep busy. Also, find tons of places to go indoors! Cooking and craft ideas on our Pinterest page. Make sure you LIKE us on Facebook for any last minute events or news. 

And if all plans fail, just grab the raincoats and rainboots and let them loose……


Tuesday-

9:30am AND 10:15am: Baby Storytime at Noyes Library
(10237 Carroll Pl, Kensington, MD 20895)
This is a storytime geared toward babies. Recommended ages are newborn to 18 months. Join us as we sing songs,read books and enjoy fingerplays. Due to the popularity of storytime we are now requiring registration. Please register for the adult caregiver attending.

10:00am AND 11:00am: Marsha Goodman-Wood at Takoma Park Maryland Library

10:00am-11:00am: Shadow Puppets at BloomBars
(3222 11th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001)
This shadow puppet stage show will feature a variety of characters and menagerie of traditional and original songs. It explores themes that center around the seasons, the environment, as well as learning components of music.

10:30 AND 11:30am: National Building Museum presents Little Builders Storytime
(401 F Street NW Washington, D.C. 20001)
A Little Prairie House
 adapted from Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House books. Reading and activity at 10:30 and 11:30 am. Free with admission to the Building Zone.

11:00am-7:30pm: Two for One at Color Me Mine
(823 Ellsworth Drive Silver Spring, Maryland 20910)
2 people paint for 1 studio fee.

3:45pm-4:45pm: Ballet in Françias at Bloombars
(3222 11th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001)
At Ballet en Français, students (ages 3-7) will learn the ballet developed in the royal courtyards of Louis XIV. We will practice basic posture while discovering the anatomy behind each position. The purpose of this class is to ally creative movement and french language from which the terms of ballet arise. French vocabulary will be taught to identify fundamental movements such as glissade, pas de bourré, and saut de chat (Italicize the terms). Parents and caregivers are free to stay or drop-off their children. Suggested donation: $12 per class or $100 for 10 classes.

Wednesday-

9:30am-12:00pm: Open Studio: Drop-in Toddler Play at Little Loft Art Studio
(7007 Carroll Ave Takoma Park, MD 20912)
Art activities and tactile play for ages 18mos. and up. Come in and explore! Rotating toddler-friendly activities including homemade play dough, sand table, rice table, drawing and painting.   $15/child (half price for the second child) passes available for purchase. 10:00am-11:00am: Little Treasures at BloomBars
(3222 11th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001)
Artist in Bloom Resident Tamika Love Jones presents Little Treasures, an educational and interactive journey for babies and children (under age 3) that explores a special box of little treasures. Each treasure that is picked from the box will lead tots and parents to sing their favorite songs, read fun stories and explore their bodies through exciting movement. The theme of Little treasures is self-love and teaching the tots that they, too, are little treasures!

10:30am: Boogie Babes presents Fendrick and Peck at Union Market 
(1309 5th St NE, Washington, DC. 20002)
Access the free market parking lot from 6th Street NE or travel via metro to NoMA-Gallaudet. Come early for coffee and stay for lunch! $5 per child, siblings 6 months and under free.

Thursday-

Think of it as your little one’s first opportunity to express his or her voice (into a microphone), dance, play a drum or percussion instrument, shout, or sing-along to songs that build character, confidence and community.

10:30am: The Great Zucchini at Jammin Java
(227 Maple Ave E Vienna, VA 22180)
Get tickets for The Great Zucchini, Washington’s funniest and most magical preschool and kindergarten entertainer, performs a colorful magic show where every child is a star and guaranteed to laugh. Experience the excitement of the children when they get to learn a magic trick at the end of show.

10:30am: Boogie Babes presents at Marsha Goodman-Wood and the Positrons at Eastern Market
(225 7th St. SE, North Hall Washington, DC 20003)
Join us at Historic Eastern Market’s North Hall (closest to South Carolina) for a lively concert, grab lunch and shop for dinner. Access to the North Hall via the market for Boogie Babes. Eastern Market Metro is two short blocks away. $5 per child; siblings under 6 mos FREE!

5:30pm-6:30pm: Bollywood Blooms- Let’s Dance Kids! at BloomBars
(3222 11th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001)
Classes will begin with light stretching and a brief background and history of the song choice for the day. Since all Bollywood dance songs are essentially a story and our dance is in the form of storytelling, we will be focusing on using our body as words and our facial expressions to help illuminate these words. Please come dressed in comfortable clothing (sweatpants/tights and T-shirts). I prefer to dance barefoot and you all are welcome to join me. If you prefer to wear shoes, please wear sneakers or tennis shoes. Don’t forget a bottle of water and your high energy!

As every family with youngsters in the DC area already knows, Rocknoceros (pronounced like rhinoceros) is three guys: Coach Cotton, Williebob, and Boogie Woogie Bennie, who make wildly popular, award-winning music for the whole family.

10:30am: Boogie Babes presents OSusannah at Atlas Performing Arts
(1333 H Street NE Washington, DC. 20002)
Join us at the ATLAS Performing Arts Center along the H Street Corridor. Snack bar and bathrooms are easily accessible. Lots of good and kid-friendly lunch options within one to three blocks!

1:00pm-4:00pm: The National Portrait Gallery presents Open Studio Fridays
(Eighth & F St NW, Washington, DC 20001 – Education Center, Room E151)
Friday afternoons at the Gallery feature some creative and free fun! Check out a Portrait Discovery Kit to explore the museum and try a different selection of art material each week.
