What: Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Musical

When: September 23, 2016 – October 23, 2016

Where: Adventure Theatre
7300 MacArthur Blvd., Glen Echo, MD. 20812

Why: Based on the book by Mo Willems. Six time Emmy Award-winner, Mo Willems wrote the script and lyrics while Grammy Award-winning children’s composer Michael Silversher wrote the music. You may recall the debut being in 2010 at The Kennedy Center.

Trixie and her father bustle through the streets of New York City down the block, across the park, past the school, to the Laundromat. But returning home, Knuffle Bunny is gone, and Trixie can’t tell her father what’s wrong.

My son is a huge Mo Willems fan so when we saw Knuffle Bunny was taking to the stage, we knew we couldn’t miss it. The show doesn’t disappoint. Full of clever, jazzy songs, and a story line all parents and children can relate to (purchase a second favorite stuffed animal ASAP). Trixie, played by Suzanne Lane (not a toddler) hits the nail on the head with her babbling and child-like expressions and emotions. My son and I were both laughing hysterically as we watched because she acted identically like my 23 month-old daughter. I was most impressed with the stage. The small space was transformed into revolving themed walls that were incredibly realistic. My son hasn’t stopped talking about (and acting out) a scene where giant, moving clothing gets some of Daddy’s karate kicks in an attempt to retrieve Knuffle Bunny. A great start to Adventure Theatre’s 2016/2017 season.
