July 4th celebrations in Washington, DC

Have a safe and fun Independence Day celebrating in the most perfect place; the nation’s capital if you are in town! Be sure to check our Instagram for last minute parades and celebrations. Trip Savvy has compiled a great list of local parades so you can find the perfect one for you here.

8:00am-4:00pm: Various events at the National Archives

8:00am-5:00pm: An American Celebration at Mount Vernon

11:45am-2:00pm: National Independence Day Parade
Get your spot along Constitution Ave NW where the parade will travel from 7th St NW to 17th St NW. Show your kiddos the balloons, floats, military units, bands and much more. Be prepared for a large crowd.

12:00pm-8:00pm: 4th of July Musical Salute at District Wharf
It’s a star-spangled day at The Wharf.  We’ll have live music throughout the day on the Pearl Street, Fish Market and Transit Pier stages. Enjoy an afternoon lunch at the waterfront, then snag a spot on our of our piers or rooftop bars for some of the best fireworks viewing the city has to offer.

Noon-Dusk: Frederick’s 4th

3:00pm-10:00pm: Historic Manassas Celebrates America

4:00pm-9:30pm: 8th Annual July Fourth Celebration at Armed Forces Retirement Home
Last year, more than 2,600 people came to the green open space of the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington for a gala July 4th celebration. The seventh annual gathering hosted by Friends of the Soldiers Home featured entertainment by the Hortonville, Wisconsin marching band and two Soldiers Home residents, DJ Billy White and singer/guitarist Waymon Lucas Jr. There was facepainting, a bounce house and pond fishing for kids, who mostly enjoyed running amok on the green expanse of the Home’s grounds. There were many food and drink choices, and of course the highlight was viewing fireworks from the National Mall and the neighborhoods surrounding the Soldiers Home.

6:00pm: Falls Church Music & Fireworks

6:30pm-Midnight: Annapolis Fourth of July

8:00pm-9:30pm: A Capitol Fourth Concert
This July 4th, A Capitol Fourth continues its 39-year tradition of celebrating our nation’s independence on the West Lawn of the United States Capitol building. Two-time Emmy Award-nominated actor and producer John Stamos returns to host the country’s longest-running live national July 4th TV tradition. In years past, gates have opened at 3:00pm and the concert begins at 8:00pm and airs on PBS and can be heard on NPR. Admission is free. They typically have a dress rehearsal on July 3  if you want to skip the larger crowd.

9:07pm: Fireworks
As part of the birthday festivities, the National Park Service and partners host a spectacular Independence Day fireworks show in the heart of the nation’s capital. On July 4, 2019, view a colorful 35-minute fireworks display with DC’s iconic monuments and memorials as a stage. Fireworks are scheduled to illuminate the sky from 9:07 pm to 9:42 pm., weather-permitting.
