Discovering Bethany Beach and the Surrounding Beaches: A Family-Friendly Guide

1. Enjoy the Beach

The main draw of Bethany Beach is, of course, its beautiful, sandy shoreline. The beach is clean, well-maintained, and perfect for a day of sun and surf. Kids can build sandcastles, play in the waves, and enjoy beach games, while parents relax under an umbrella. The beach is family-friendly, with lifeguards on duty, making it a safe spot for children to swim and play.

2. Stroll the Boardwalk

Bethany Beach’s boardwalk is a pleasant place for a stroll. Stretching about a quarter of a mile, it offers stunning views of the ocean and is lined with quaint shops, plenty of stops for a scoop at Maureen or Kohr Bros, as well as many eateries. The boardwalk also features several benches where you can sit and people watch.

3. Explore the Bethany Beach Nature Center

For a change of pace, head to the Bethany Beach Nature Center. This educational center offers a variety of interactive exhibits and programs designed to teach children about the local environment and wildlife. The center is surrounded by natural trails, ideal for short hikes or leisurely walks through the salt marshes and wooded areas. 5. Play at the John West Park

John West Park, located just a short walk from the beach, is a fantastic spot for families with children. The park features a large playground, sports fields, and picnic areas. The park also has a walking trail, which is a nice way to get some exercise and fresh air.

6. Visit the Fenwick Island Lighthouse

For a bit of friendly competition, head to one of the nearby mini-golf courses; Nick’s & Shipwrecked. It’s a great way to spend an evening, especially if you’re looking for an activity that’s both entertaining and casual.

9. Relax with a Family Movie Night

The Clayton Theatre is celebrating over 70 years! Delaware’s only single-screen theatre still in operation, The Clayton Theatre offers today’s movie goers a rare opportunity to see first-run movies in a charming hometown atmosphere. 

10. Bike or walk the 2-mile Assawoman Canal Trail

Enjoy this 2.0-mile out-and-back trail near Ocean View, Delaware.This trail is great for birding, hiking, and road biking, and it’s unlikely you’ll encounter many other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.

Bonfires on the Beach– Fridays in October from 6-8 pm on the beach off Campbell Place

Summer Concert Series– Thursday nights at the Bandstand

Delaware Seashore State Park– Scroll to the bottom of the link and see all of the great events they offer. We went on a white ghost crab chase on our last trip.

Jungle Jim’s– Delaware’s largest waterpark and additional fun with batting cages and more.

Burley Oak Brewing Company– Great brewery with space outdoors as well as indoors.

Don’t miss the .25 cent Trolley ride through town!

South Coastal Library– Be sure to check out the schedule for children’s events.

Movies on the Beach– Monday evenings on the beach in the summer.

Rehoboth Beach has Funland and Ocean City has Trimper Rides & Jolly Roger sure to entertain all.

Bethany Beach offers a wonderful mix of relaxation, adventure, and family-friendly activities. Whether you’re soaking up the sun, exploring nature, or enjoying local attractions, you’re sure to have a memorable and enjoyable time.
