As we prepare to publish a mid-winter camp guide tomorrow, here is one that is hard to turn down. A special day for middle & high school students at Humane Rescue Alliance.
In tandem with D.C. Public Schools February mid-winter break, the Humane Rescue Alliance is offering two special days, specifically for students who care about animals. These day-long events will provide opportunities for middle and high school students to spend a day at HRA participating in activities designed especially for them.
They are excited to invite high school students to participate in their first-ever Veterinary Medicine Exploration Day. Area veterinarians will discuss their jobs working with small and exotic animals, emergency medicine, and shelter medicine. Additionally, the doctors will address topics such as preparing for college, applying to veterinary school, and the many career paths that someone with a veterinary degree may take. Bring your questions, concerns, and enthusiasm for exploring an exciting (and competitive) career in veterinary medicine.
The Day of Dogs (and a few cats, too) event provides middle school students with an opportunity to surround themselves with dogs, while learning what they can do to make the world a better place for animals. Fifth, sixth, and seventh graders will meet shelter alumni, partake in a mini-dog training exercise, and watch the popular “dancing dogs” performance. In addition, participants will make toys for shelter animals, create a long list of names to be used for future shelter animals, and explore other ways that they can help HRA help the animals.
